Proverbs 14:7 NIV

One of my children came to me when he was young and asked me to ground him. Unusual right? Imagine a three year old asking for a spanking or to be put in timeout. Doesn’t happen. This child of mine had recently gotten in trouble for being with his friend while his friend made a very poor choice. They both got in trouble for it. He had decided that he was easily influenced by his friends and that their less than stellar decision making.  He decided the best way not to get caught up with them in those choices was to be keep away from them all together. It helped. Solomon is letting us know that those who love to live in and walk on the dark side, evil and sinful side, are contagious in their behavior. They tend to draw others into their orbit, often unwillingly. Hanging out with fools is a dangerous way to live. Their thoughts and acts tend to be far from God’s desires for His children. The reason we go to foolish and sinful people is to introduce them to the gospel, God’s good news. We do not go to them for wisdom or insight. They are not capable of Godly insight. One of the great gifts of decades in ministry is that I have developed a network of wise, godly counselors. Men and women who I have come to trust as I’ve watched their consistent walk with God. Today look at who is influencing your story and make sure their life represents the God you serve. #BeTheEdge
