Disgrace or wisdom, seems like an easy choice. Pride or humility, that’s what makes it tough. By the way, notice that it doesn’t say false humility. That’s obviously not what Solomon is after here either. Humility is not hard when we have a proper perspective of who God is and who we are in our story. It becomes hard when we forget who we really are and who He really is and believe that any good thing in us is somehow our creation. It is often that we see pride exhibited on a wider scale in the younger generations and, although still existing, less so in the older generations. This is not because the older you get the higher your IQ goes. It is simply that after enough prideful falls we begin to realize we are really not “all that” without the hand, power and presence of our creator exhibited in our story. It isn’t that we invent humility in our story. It’s just that the longer we live battling our weaknesses and flaws we begin to understand that apart from God’s grace we are in a world of hurt. That’s a humbling experience. Those who go through life without learning that lesson are usually the old, crusty, bitter as well as lonely people we sometimes encounter. Those who have learned that lesson tend to be more gentle, happier, and enjoying their life as they age. They also tend to be less quick to give their opinion and advice unless genuinely asked for. Today, take a good look at yourself and gaze intently at the Lord so he can clear your vision and gently humble your spirit. #BeTheEdge
