“There is a better way. It is to repudiate our own wisdom and take instead the infinite wisdom of God…” (A.W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy, p. 63.) pretty straight forward. Calvert Heights has a way with a pithy rhyme. Here is their take on this verse. “…these verses teach us that there is great danger in rejecting wisdom. The person who rejects Wisdom will grow to resent Wisdom. The person who denies Wisdom’s invitation will grow to despise Wisdom’s information. The person who ignores Wisdom will eventually grow to abhor Wisdom”. Pretty cute but no less insightful and true. To ignore God’s wisdom to the point of denying it is the height of foolishness and will be result in great disaster. All of us have seen people foolishly ignoring the common sense teaching of God. We also, too often, witness their demise. It is not a pretty sight. It is cautionary. As a teenager my older brother made a lot of unwise decisions. At times my parents were encouraged by others that “at least Kevin has more sense than to do those things”. The reality was that I watched my brother, saw the results of his unwise choices and learned from his behavior that I probably wanted to avoid those things. No brilliance involved, simple observation. He didn’t have the benefit of a slightly older brother. God has not only given us great and wise counsel, His word has given many examples of both those who followed His wisdom and those who didn’t and the results. Today pay attention and learn to follow His wisdom. #BeTheEdge
