Proverbs 13:19 NIV

When I was 11 years old I was diagnosed with type one diabetes. 6 years later on the first day of college I met and fell in love with the woman who almost 3 years later became my wife. Shortly after meeting her she learned about my disease and we began praying for God to heal me of it. For the next 3 decades we lived a lot of life but in the midst we continued to pray for my diabetes to be healed. 11 years ago today I received a call from the Emory transplant center in Atlanta telling me they had a healthy young kidney and pancreas. It was a sad moment as someone had lost a young loved one and an exciting moment as my life was about to potentially get a second chance. I went to sleep after 40 long years of being ravaged by type 1 diabetes and woke up completely cured of the disease. 40 years of prayer. Each intervening year bringing another challenge resulting from excess sugar coursing through tiny blood vessels in my eyes, feet, hands, kidneys and other parts of my slowly deteriorating body. And then it wasn’t. The deterioration was arrested and my disbetes was gone. I cannot tell non-diabetics what it is like to be diabetic for 40 years, all the way back to childhood through mid life, and then suddenly to not be. Amazing and sweet to the soul. Today reflect on the prayer answering God we serve and don’t quit. #BeTheEdge
