Proverbs 15:2 NIV

I know a lot of very smart people. Not just because I live in a university town although I suspect that may certainly contribute to the overall IQ of my interactions. I have traveled for years around ministry, business and education leaders. Most of the time you don’t become one of them without some degree of intellect. How that intelligence comes across is often determined by the level of wisdom the person has. Intelligent people who lack the wisdom to know when and how to share their insights makes what they know, and more so, what they say basically useless. Wisdom takes our knowledge and filters it through a perceptive, gracious and kind spirit. Poole says, “…taking due care both what, and when, and to whom, and in what manner he speaks.” By contrast the word ‘gushes’ in the original Hebrew means, to “blurt it out, as a fountain casts out its waters, with a great force and swiftness.” None of us want to be victimized by that type of “help”. Intelligence is a gift from God. Wisdom reminds us that He graciously gives it and we are to consider how to do the same. Today be sure your counsel and insight are wisely given. #BeTheEdge
