Proverbs 16:21 NASB

I find it very interesting that this verse doesn’t say the wise in words or even the one who acts wisely will be called understanding. It specifically says, “the wise in heart.” One of my dearest friends over the years rarely said anything other than pleasant words shared with pleasant smiles. She was just kind. Every now and then she would offer a suggestion, and because it was from her and so gently and rarely done, it would cause everyone to almost instantly stop and quietly ponder what she said. In contrast, I don’t see a lot of sweetness of speech these days. Sarcasm, loudness, arrogance, and bluster are becoming more prevalent in today’s communications with each other, and in the public forum. There is a tendency to believe that the louder and more demanding we become the more others have to listen and respond. The reality is that those tones tend to shut down and turn others away. I aim to change that, starting with myself. Today, let’s be wise, and when it’s necessary to speak, do it with grace and kindness. #BeTheEdge
