“How did you not see that coming?” Is a question I have been asked a lot over the years, and especially in the last 9 months. It’s a legitimate question. I tend to have people do things to me that I never saw coming. In a conversation with a business leader yesterday, we discussed someone who had deeply abused his trust. We talked about different ways to deal with that situation. Many years ago, I made a conscious decision to live trusting the people around me. To take them at their word. Most of the time, that has been a very simple and rewarding way to operate. Occasionally, not so much. Recently, I put a ton of faith in a group of people to be true to who they professed to be. It cost me dearly. Live and learn. Today, I still choose to trust people to be true to who they profess to be. Jesus had a unique gift that would come in very handy for us. He could look directly into a person’s heart and see what even they didn’t know about themselves. This ability allowed Him to minister to, confront, and challenge people exactly where they needed to be. He also knew who was with Him and who was against Him. I’m sure I will continue to be surprised by ill-intentioned people. The alternative, constant mistrust, is an awful way to live. We all have the choice about which kind of person to be, the trusting one, or the one who abuses others’ trust. God will continue to read our hearts, challenge us to change where necessary, and use us accordingly. Today, listen to what He reveals and allow Him to change you. #BeTheEdge
