Proverbs 20:3 NIV

“He/she started it.” Famous kids’ words – maybe not just kids. I have been hurt both intentionally and unintentionally by someone else’s words. Who hasn’t, right? The question then becomes, “What am I going to do about it?” Our sinful nature, thanks Adam, wants to get even. It feels good for a moment. Actually, maybe not even for a moment. You see, as a follower of Christ we have the presence of the indwelling Holy Spirit as a constant companion, and with that we have His constant ‘still small voice’ whispering truth to our soul. Revenge and retribution are never whispered by Him. Peace, calm, forgiveness; these are the declarations of the voice of the Holy God to our spirits. He is a healing, redeeming and reconciling Savior. As His children, we will get it wrong at times, which may make it more difficult and costly to redeem a relationship. However, redemption and reconciliation are His favorite works. Our choice is clearly laid out in this verse. We are either honorable or a fool. Our response defines us. “The wise are more concerned to bring peace than a desire to be right, but the fool cannot restrain himself and at the first opportunity explodes and shows his teeth.” (Waltke) Today, live with honor and bring glory to the God you serve. #BeTheEdge
