Proverbs 2:17 NIV

The marriage covenant made before God has been one of the most consistently broken of all the commitments we make before Him. Interestingly, the divorce rate has declined significantly since the 1980s—the exception being those 65 and older, the “graying of divorce.” Most of the biblical covenants are promises from God to man. Examples include God’s promise never to flood the earth again, His blessing of Abraham’s lineage, and the covenant with Moses through the Ten Commandments. The marriage covenant, however, is between a man and a woman made to each other before God. That’s a bigger deal than is often thought. We serve a forgiving God, but covenants are not instituted by Him to make life harder or to punish us. They are intended to show the importance of counting the cost before we make them. It is not to be done lightly. Covenants between God and man give us the redemptive framework to understand and live powerfully with our Creator. His love and willingness to live in a covenant relationship with us is a great gift, and when lived with that understanding, it becomes the foundation for a powerful future of peace and victory. Today, honor the covenants of God. #BeTheEdge
