Proverbs 23:1 NIV

‬ ‬‬

Most of proverbs, as the writer indicates, is meant for his son. In the same way God intends it for all His children. The authors style helps us see our fathers heart in every word. Where as much of scripture is written to groups, the church at Corinth, the church at Ephesus, or groups like the Israelis or those in Rome, this is personal, you can read it as written directly from the Fathers heart to yours. This is a significant part of the incredible gift found for each of us individually in this book and much of the scriptures. In this verse along with the next couple we see Solomon not warning his son about gluttony or being poisoned although there are plenty of places where God certainly gives these kinds of cautions. Here the caution is specifically to keep an eye on the ruler. Be aware of his motives and tread carefully. Jesus tells us that the evil one is out to get us and he has many, especially in positions of authority, that he seeks to use to trip us up. His goal is to “steal, kill and destroy” us. He “roams around like a roaring lion seeking whom he can destroy”. He hates you. But, he is aware that he must come at you from a direction where you will not be looking. Today be attentive to how you act, even though it seems ok, around those in positions of authority, they do not all want the best for your story. #BeTheEdge
