Proverbs 24:29 NASB

Revenge and getting even are pretty much the same thing. When it’s deserved, we can feel really justified in wanting it. However, it is ultimately very unsatisfying to those of us who serve Christ. The old saying goes, “weak people get revenge, strong people forgive, but intelligent people ignore.” Trust me, I understand how difficult it can be to ignore or even forgive a wrong suffered. The writers of Scripture speak to forgiveness a lot. It seems to be a very important subject to our Heavenly Father. Here comes the part we hate; we have to forgive. God’s instruction to walk away from revenge is not for the other person’s benefit, it may bless their story to be forgiven but God’s instruction is for our benefit. Douglas Horton said, “While seeking revenge dig two graves – one for yourself.” The desire for revenge will sap your energy, cloud or redirect your focus and stifle your vision. Who loses when that happens? We do. In teaching us, His followers, to pray, Jesus told them to say, “forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.” Do you want God’s best, complete forgiveness? Then you had better offer it to others. Today, search your heart for who you need to forgive, and do it. #BeTheEdge
