Proverbs 24:7 NIV

Solomon makes an interesting point in this verse. There are those in our world who have no business in places of leadership. It is not because of their lack of wealth, status, lineage or even talents. No, his point is that those who lack wisdom have no business leading. As a matter of fact he doesn’t even think they should contribute to the discussion. He feels they come to the conversation or debate without wisdom and therefore bring nothing of real value. As I watch leaders in government, business and even churches I am continually amazed at the level of ignorance displayed by some who really should know better. The goal of youth is to watch and learn, to gain wisdom, understanding and insight from older, wiser, godly role models. As they mature they will eventually be able to share what they have learned from their careful observation, study and training. Our culture tends to worship youth. Youth is a great thing and certainly to be celebrated rather than looked down on. Celebrating youth and giving it the platform are not the same thing. Paul tells Timothy to not be to quick to launch a young believer into leadership. You set them up for a fall. Remember there is no shortcut to maturity and their is a reason scripture refers to them as elders and not youngers. Maturity is ultimately about study and growth not a numeric age. Today grow in wisdom and when God prompts, speak. #BeTheEdge
