Proverbs 28:4 NIV

When the man that Scripture refers to as the wisest who ever lived—obviously, apart from the Son of God Himself—talks about not forsaking instruction, it’s a pretty safe bet that no matter how much we think we know, we can certainly benefit from good instruction in our lives. Scripture tells us even Jesus learned. We read in Hebrews that Jesus learned obedience through suffering. This is a concept I find almost mind-boggling. The Son of God having anything to learn is an amazing idea. That He would do His learning through suffering is almost beyond comprehension. Yet, it lays a foundation for the reality that we certainly won’t escape the same teacher—suffering. Over my many years, I’ve faced a few challenges, and I’ll confess that most of the important lessons I’ve learned about God came during those times. I’m not sure I can call what I went through “suffering” compared to what Jesus endured. One of the truths in Solomon’s words is the foolishness of believing that we don’t need to learn—and as a result, the lesson is missed. When we either reject or ignore instruction, we align ourselves, perhaps unknowingly, with those who stand against God—the wicked. That may not be our intention at the time, but it is certainly the result. The righteous learn, growing in the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of God. The wicked believe they already possess all knowledge and have no need for God—so they reject His offer. Today, be a willing learner. #BeTheEdge
