Proverbs 29:1 NIV

If you read that verse and were tempted to skip this mornings devotion I don’t blame you. Most months as I read this chapter looking for the verse the Lord would have me share about I’m pretty quick to get past this verse and dive into the rest of the chapter. I shudder at the implications of this verse. We all have those favorite sins. Maybe secret, maybe not. We excuse them as either not a big deal or “justifiable under the circumstances”. Anything from a self destructive habit to excusing a divorce for unbiblical reasons can put us in this dangerous position. The Holy Spirit reveals our sins to us. Matthew Henry puts it this way, “They are often reproved by parents and friends, by magistrates and ministers, by the providence of God and by their own consciences, have had their sins set in order before them and fair warning given them of the consequences of them, but all in vain; they harden their necks.” In Hebrews we are told that when we ignore Gods revelation of Himself we are without excuse. We see the same truth here. God loves us and is patient but there comes a point where we make a clear determination of our hearts desire. Today seek His revelation on areas of sin in your story and respond with repentance. #BeTheEdge
