Proverbs 29:18 NIV

The word for revelation in this verse is considered by many theologians to be better translated as vision. In other words, “a lack of divine guidance or vision leads to a society that runs wild and unrestrained.” Obviously, that does not lead to a stable or productive situation. There’s probably a decent argument to be made that our society is running pretty wild and unrestrained in many areas these days. Israel, during its better times, had a clear vision of their calling as a nation, which trickled down to their calling as individuals—to love God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. That was their primary call. Jesus gives us that same primary call in the New Testament. (Mk 12) He follows it with a call to love others. If we operate with what Jesus called the greatest commandments, it will certainly eliminate a lot of bad behavior and center our focus. We could spend a lot of time talking about a society that is living unrestrained; however, for our purpose this morning, let’s consider the unrestrained life. Recognizing that if we choose to live apart from God’s call on our lives, it tends to open us up to a lack of self-control in our journey. Jesus cleared the blind man’s vision by having him focus on Him. (Mk 8) We can experience the same clarity in our lives by focusing on Jesus. Today, set your sight on your savior.
