I live in a college town. A great university in a wonderful town. There are many upsides to living in a college town. First class division 1 sports, the music and arts available and the constant stimulation of being around brilliant people. There is a very glaring downside from a spiritual perspective though. Not all, but many professors truly believe they are smarter than everybody else. Some of them probably are. I have a family member who grew up in a very committed Christian home but after attending a very liberal university told me that they abandoned their faith when they realize “their professors who are smarter than most people” told them their faith was “anti-intellectual”. In this verse and the ones surrounding it Solomon reminds us that the more he sought and studied the more aware he became of his own ignorance in light of God‘s incomprehensibility. Humans are essentially very irrational and driven by so many things other than the pure intellect that God has. Knowing this we can begin to understand what Solomon saw as his own stupidity against the depth and mystery and the impenetrable knowledge of the all knowing unfathomable knowledge of God. God taught Solomon wisdom but even on his best day he realized he was only scratching the surface of the full wisdom of the eternal creator God. Today continue to pursue God’s wisdom but never mistake your understanding for having grasped the full knowledge of God. #BeTheEdge
