Proverbs 30:32 NIV

This chapter by Agur is considered by some theologians to be a bit bizarre or bemusing. It certainly bounces from place to place, idea to idea, one challenge or rebuke to another. It could be easy to read this chapter over coffee this morning and ponder it before shaking your head in bewilderment and getting about your day. I find Kirk’s thought pretty on the mark, “Like a low-budget horror movie or Quentin Tarantino film, the imagery is so graphic and over the top that we are expected to cringe and laugh simultaneously. But Agur’s dark humor is deadly serious.” (Alex Kirk) So with the warnings in this chapter, not dissimilar to what we see in Job, what should we take away? Certainly warnings and cautions. But the redemptive part is found in the concepts of contentment and humility. In other words if we want to avoid the wrath and rebukes of the rest of the chapter we find freedom in being both humble and content in the circumstances God has us in. We see clear cautions in this chapter but perhaps they serve to help us take to heart the challenge to be humble and content in all circumstances. Today beware of the dangers of pride and find value in humility. #BeTheEdge
