Proverbs 5:11 speaks about the person who, at the end of their life, is suffering profound grief at the realization that they have chosen to live a life of following their lusts and desires, in spite of knowing the truth. Yes, it is a choice or perhaps a series of many choices; it is a sad, dark picture. The groaning here is like that of the roar of a lion; it is from one who is in deep mental anguish. However, it is godly sorrow and not anguish that leads to repentance. It is never too late to repent of our sin and turn to God; just refer to the thief on the cross. Remorse does not equal repentance. One leads to anguish, sorrow and depression. The other leads to cleansing, new life and freedom. Making the decision at this point to repent should be easy, but the depth of sin’s hold makes it very difficult. Today, own your choices and repent where needed.
