Proverbs 5:7 NASB

When my kids were little, my wife and I wrestled with what to tell them about Santa, the Easter Bunny, and other fantasy figures. On one hand, we never wanted to lie or deceive our kids, but on the other we wanted to encourage their imaginations and participate in fun holiday traditions. Ultimately, we went with a kind of blended plan. Recently, I was talking with a young dad who shared that when he reached the age to realize there was no Santa Claus he let all the other characters go, and Jesus along with them. Regardless of your holiday traditions, is it vital that we as God-followers are always truth tellers. No matter how difficult it may be, one of the things that can set us apart from much of the rest of the world is that we are known for representing and always speaking the truth. There is a reason Jesus literally referred to Himself as ‘The Truth’. He did not claim to be a truth. He was The Truth. As His followers, that should clearly be one of our distinctives. Recently, I heard a businessman speak of his boss walking away from a multimillion-dollar deal because one of the people involved had misrepresented a fact. It was a relatively insignificant misrepresentation, but it reflected on the person’s character. Speak truth, then people can live by our words in the same way they can live by our Lord’s. Today, speak the truth in love and allow God to handle the fallout for good or for bad. #BeTheEdge
