Proverbs 6:17 NIV

These are a few of the things Solomon tells us God hates. Think about that—the Creator of the universe. The Creator and Sustainer of life. The sovereign, eternal King of all—hates certain things. And here are a few of them. That should rattle our cages and push us to examine whether any of these are even slightly reflected in our lives. Haughty eyes are something I don’t believe the average person gives much thought to. This phrase refers to a prideful or arrogant look—someone who looks down on others with a sense of superiority or self-importance. In the Bible, we often see that eyes are reflectors of a person’s heart. God sees a prideful heart in haughty eyes. By contrast, years ago our ministry adopted the theme “Through the Eyes of Jesus.” That fascinated me, and I began to put effort into reading, studying, and contemplating how Jesus’s eye contact would impact a person—all the way to their soul. We know that a formerly blind man, after scanning the area with what had been cloudy vision, looked into Jesus’s eyes and immediately had his sight restored. But how truly life-giving and impactful it must have been to look deeply into our Savior’s eyes. As reflections of Him and His Spirit within us, we should have a similar impact on those we look at. Today, clear your vision and humble your heart. #BeTheEdge

“Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly.” Mark‬ ‭8‬:‭25‬ ‭NIV‬‬
