Proverbs 7:6 NIV

Solomon reintroduces the well known caution for sexual sin again in this chapter. Then he does what most of my favorite teachers do, he tells us a story to illustrate his point. At lunch a couple weeks ago with one of my all-time favorite pastors he talked about how he was more a story teller then a teacher. I reminded him that that is what made him one of my favorite teachers. Dr Thompson pastored one of the largest churches in the state and was no doubt effective because his stories were filled with Gospel truth as they took the listener right to the heart of God. Jesus was that type of teacher as well. He loved to illustrate His truth through stories. That is why your testimony, your story, of God’s work in and through your life is so critical for the world to hear. I have discovered that many Christians who are quick to quote a verse but slow with an example from their life tend to not be walking as intimately with Jesus as those who can barely contain sharing what He is doing in their life. I had an old mentor who would ask me every time he saw me, “What is God teaching you today?” When God was up to something I could hardly wait to see him. When I was out of step in my walk and therefore I didn’t notice God’s working in my journey I almost seemed to avoid him. Today watch God at work in your life and, when appropriate, freely share it with others. #BeThedge
