Proverbs 9:10 NIV

In youth ministry, I used to have fun with Christmas songs. One of the worst was, “You better watch out, you better not cry. You better not shout; I’m telling you why…” If you’re singing along, you might already have the next line in your head. “Santa Claus is…dead!” Yeah, I was great with teens but pretty awful with everyone else. Now that I have grandkids, I’ve thankfully retired that tune. In this chapter, Solomon is equally as blunt. He makes a clear distinction between living with God’s wisdom or the foolishness of the world. He shows how each reaches out to us and what their process looks like. In the comparison He makes it very clear how each one ends. With wisdom, we have a good and long life. With foolishness, we die. No gentle stammering here. Foolish living, sin, leads to death. We might want to soften the blow for ourselves, but God is honest. That’s one reason Jesus described Himself as “The Truth.” Living outside God’s design is not only dangerous, it’s deadly. Maybe not physically, at first. But it will kill relationships, joy, opportunities, and so much more. Finally, it will kill you. Satan, the author of this level of foolishness came to “steal, kill, and destroy.” Today, flee foolishness and pursue God and life. #BeTheEdge

Better ending verse:  “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 NASB
