Proverbs 16:1 NIV

‬ “To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.”

The first half of that verse alone sounds ok. I mean who else but humans are making our plans? Dogs and cats? Humans first instinct is that we know what we are doing and we can handle it, whatever “it” is. Well, at least until it hits a wall. We are pretty confident we are good at being in control. Just look at how our planet is doing today. Any doubt “humans” have it under control? Maybe we “humans” might admit we could use help in the really big stuff. Cancer, divorce, bankruptcy or our kids, anything with a free will that we can’t control or is left up to the seeming randomness of chance might require more than just human plans. Check out the very next verse: “All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord.” (Pr.16:2‬) The problem with human motives go back as far as Adam and Eve. So we can see where the issues enter. When we trust ourselves we open the door to our brokenness taking over then we are in trouble. Only when we understand that even the best human heart is soiled by a sin nature. Even though that was put to death at conversion it has still left old patterns in our minds that battle for influence in our story. When we recognize that then we truly understand that God alone can be trusted with our journey. Today get out of the way, quite trying to author your story on your own and let your creator complete in you what you were built for. #BeTheEdge
