Proverbs 19:11 NIV

“A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.”

When a person experiences anger the brain causes the body to release stress hormones, adrenaline and noradrenaline. That’s great in sports competitions or if your life is in immanent danger. At other times I suspect most of us do not make the wisest decisions with adrenaline rushing through out system. There are three types of anger which help shape how we react in a situation that makes us angry. These are: Passive Aggression, Open Aggression, and Assertive Anger. As you might suspect none of these sound like the best ways to respond in a situation. Combine one of these forms of anger with a boost of adrenaline and you are about to see a situation where no one walks away better for it. As Matt Henry advises, a key rule about anger is to defer action when we are angry. This allows us to calm down and really consider all the factors involved in the situation and come up with the most Godly response. This is a powerful truth in dealing with employees and our kids. Plato said to his servant, “I would beat thee, but that I am angry.’’ Wait, calm down, reflect and, if necessary, respond. David, in Psalms, and Solomon here go so far as to advise that its to a persons glory to, at times, ignore an offense as if we never saw it and/or forgive quickly. Today take the high road and remain calm. #BeTheEdge
