Proverbs 20:9 NIV

“Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin”?”

There are two sinless groups of people in all of history. Adam and Eve before the apple and all the saints in heaven, present and future. No chance of getting into the first group but hopefully you are going to join the second. In the meantime, recognizing our sinfulness and our need for a savior is required to join the second group. In decades of ministry I have only known of one person who truly believed they had never sinned and therefore did not need a savior. Now I have known many, way too many to count, who knew they were sinners. They just did not want a savior. Even typing that sentence makes me shake my head in bewilderment. People who believe they are basically good are blind. They tend to go through life trying to tip the scales of good behavior against bad. Usually they realize they just can’t do it and give up and hope for the best. This verse is a reminder that none of us can say we are sinless. Thankfully when we come to God through Jesus that is how He sees us. We are covered in the righteousness of our savior. That is why there was a cross. If that doesn’t make you want to shout a huge “THANKS GOD” I don’t know what will. Today confess your sin, repent and keep running the race. #BeTheEdge

“he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,” Titus 3:5 NIV
