Proverbs 29:3 NIV

“A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father, but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.” Proverbs 29:3 NIV

Adam Clarke asked a simple question in regard to Proverbs 29:3: “Has there ever been a single case to the contrary?” I mean seriously, after years of ministry with teenagers I find Clarke’s question pretty right on. I volunteer with a ministry called True North. It is a high school club ministry. Yesterday, I watched as a room full of high school kids answered two questions: 1. “Where do you want to be in 10 years?” and 2. “What is a decision will you make today that will determine how your goals work out to get there?” I was encouraged by the answers. All fathers celebrate seeing their kids make wise decisions. We realize that this wisdom not only helps with the issues of the moment, but it also shows the promise of a good future. Conversely, vices or unwise decisions caused by a flawed character send shudders through the heart of an observant parent. The prospect of a hard and broken life from sin driven by unwise decisions can cause an unwelcome burden on loved ones. The teens at the meeting knew the right answers yet were obviously wrestling with which way they would go. Thankfully, the True North staff and their own youth pastors will walk with them on the journey. Today, consider how your next decision will affect you and your loved one’s tomorrows. #BeTheEdge
