Proverbs 4:13 NIV

“Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.”

Imagine walking through a dangerous part of a big city alone at night. Now imagine you have two fists full of valuable jewels and hundred dollar bills stuffed in your pockets which are so full the money is sticking out. Now imagine that you are oblivious to what you have in your hands and pockets as well as where you are. Dumb, right? No one is that careless. In this verse Solomon is cautioning against essentially that same behavior. Instruction is used to represent God’s wisdom and his caution is to hold it tight and protect it from those who would steal it. When we live sloppy lives in a broken world we open ourselves up to influences that desire to kill, steal and destroy everything good that God has blessed our lives with. A lot of us are reviewing our lives and businesses as we enter a new year. A look at those people, places and things that do not encourage God’s role in our journey need to be seen for what they are. Enemies. Often they will seek to quietly and very subtly slip God’s wisdom from our hands when we are not paying attention. They will steal His treasure from our lives at every opportunity. Today grip firmly His wisdom and instruction and don’t allow anyone to deceive you and take it away. #BeTheEdge
