Part of what Solomon is telling us here is that when we understand who God is, what He is up to in our world and throughout eternity, and why we’re here, it is impossible not to love the gifts that He has given. As we begin to understand, our perspective changes. We will obviously never fully understand until we’re with Him, but when you live in a close walk with God and see His hand throughout your journey, no matter what the world throws at you, you gain an appreciation for real life. Real life refers to Jesus. Yes, the Jesus who said, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” It is impossible not to love Him when you see Him for who He really is: the One who sacrificed His life because He longed to be close to you. The One who created you to enjoy this life and eternity arm in arm with Him and His people. Although this might seem a bit selfish, Solomon is letting us know that pursuing God and His wisdom is the furthest thing from selfish self-indulgence. One reason people who battle depression are often told to go serve others is that we find meaning when we begin to take our eyes off ourselves and place them on the purposes of God’s call on our lives. There is a blessing and a prosperous life awaiting those who not only gain wisdom but live it out. Today, pursue godly wisdom and really live. #BeTheEdge
