“If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.” Mother Theresa
If you want an up-close look at the state of your family, get locked down together by the outbreak of a pandemic. Right now, millions of families are spending more time together than many do in a typical year. That is not an exaggeration. Those of you in that situation know exactly what I’m talking about. I’ve heard from men and women who are loving this time together. Cooking together, eating every meal together, playing games for the first time in a long time and many other rediscovered fun activities. I’ve heard from a few others who realize that work and other outside activities were an escape from a bad situation. Spouses that forgot why they fell in love in the first place. Parents who avoided parenting when it became hard and now find themselves with kids who are basically strangers to them. We also see reports of a dramatic rise in abuse in homes. Heartbreaking. This time can, actually must, be an opportunity to allow God to begin changing our most basic relationships – our immediate family. To some extent, we have no real choice and it seems that of the many reasons God is allowing this struggle, family healing and growth is a big one. Today, look for ways, they may be very simple, to bless those whom you are with. #BeTheEdge
