When I was a young believer, I heard a speaker at a youth conference say that if God said there was no wall next to me, yet my eyes said there was, then my eyes were wrong. That’s actually pretty dumb. God doesn’t play those kinds of games. However, there is a truth in there that was a bit obscured by the ignorant example. We do walk through this world being persuaded that certain things are true that God’s Word clearly tells us are false. “You should do whatever it takes to make yourself happy” is a lie. God offers joy, but that is often found through sacrifice, suffering and pursuing others’ happiness over our own. The world believes some sin is not only enjoyable but also harmless. God clearly lets us know that sin takes a horrible toll on our lives and often on those around us. With an attitude that hates the false offerings of this world, we are freed up to love what God offers. I hate the sin of sex trafficking and abuse. God does too, and He expects His followers to as well. When the world sends a message that right is wrong, or that we should not hate anyone’s behavior, that is false. We certainly love people, but sin is destroying everyone it touches. They are often unaware of it, but that doesn’t soften the sin. Today, love God and hate sin. #BeTheEdge
“Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.” Psalms 97:10 NIV
