Theologians tell us this verse speaks to the ruler/leader/business owner who treats their people well and makes them want to stay. Everyone has heard the stories, at least since Covid, of businesses struggling to find employees. With unemployment in the 3% range, it seems employers are pulling from an ever shrinking pool of available staff. When looking for particular skills it can be even harder. Therefore, it behooves a company to figure out how to keep the people they have. Yesterday I was reading the 2023 and 2024 KPMG Exec Summary based on a survey of 1300 companies CEO’s with $500 million in annual corporate earnings or higher. This quote caught my attention, “In this era of compound volatility, it’s clear that many CEOs are anticipating and outpacing the resulting risks by living their values, acting with purpose…” (2024 KPMG Exec Summary, Paul Knopp U.S. Chair & CEO) I found it instructive that corporate leaders, with no discernible faith element to their leadership, identified operating with values and purpose as the key to not only running their companies, but keeping their employees onboard and successful with all the challenges both seen and unseen that they will encounter.
