Proverbs 14:5 NIV

Sometimes I read a verse out of Proverbs and wonder why Solomon felt it was necessary to write it. At first glance, it seems so obvious that it’s hard to imagine anyone doesn’t already know these truths without being reminded of them. As I ponder that, two things come to mind. One is, as Peter tells us in the New Testament, we can never be reminded of the basic truths of the faith too often. His attempt was to make sure that when he was gone, those truths had been so hammered into his listeners that they could not forget them. It’s why parents repeat the same things to their kids numerous times—an effort to drive those truths deeply into their spirit. The other reason is that so many deeper and even more powerful truths find their foundation in the most basic and simplest of truths. If we don’t start from that place, we won’t get to those deeper truths. There are many places in the world today that ignore the most basic truth and build a false theology or philosophy off of a simple lie. Believing that right is wrong and wrong is right, that good is evil and evil is good, does not make it true. But if we begin to build our lives on those lies, we end up in some of the very dark and distorted places we see around us in this world. Satan’s great desire is that we all build our lives on lies. The basic truth about human enlightenment that is often quoted—“There is a God, and you are not Him”—is a great place to begin in pursuing a life of purpose and meaning in the light of God’s calling and truth. Today, let your life begin with God and His truth, and allow Him to build your story from there. #BeTheEdge
