Proverbs 15:1 NIV

A friend stopped by yesterday to visit. He talked about a new member of their homeowners association who appears to have an anger control problem. Their small community has been a fun, caring community for decades. All of a sudden there is a potential volcano in their midst. In the discussion we determined that meetings of the association as a whole where their history of kindness, service and self sacrifice for the good of everyone has been the overriding atmosphere might calm this new neighbor. Maybe not, but it certainly has a chance where harsh, angry, accusatory attitudes most assuredly won’t. We have all seen a soft word, maybe from a parent or teacher, that can almost magically restore calm in even the tensest situations. Well, guess what, it’s biblical. As a matter of fact we are told that persons speech is like a ‘tree of life’. Now that is powerful. The more gentle and uplifting our words the more powerful they become. Here again God’s logic flies supernaturally in the face of the worlds standard. The old saying that it takes at least two to argue is true. But, it only takes one to speak life and bring peace. It is important to notice that neither Solomon nor I have mentioned who is ‘right’ in this truth. Often it doesn’t matter. Who is right is not nearly as important as doing what is right. Today speak life and peace in a gentle voice. #BeTheEdge
