This morning I want to look at a common misconception. Randy Newman has a song called, “You’ve Got A Friend in Me” that he wrote for the classic children’s movie, “Toy Story.” “The song [Newman’s first Oscar winner] is about the friendship of Woody and the boy, Andy. I asked for adjectives; they gave me ‘friendly,’ ‘comforting.’ I took them seriously.” Newman said in an interview. This verse from Proverbs tends to make people anxious as they picture God watching over them to catch them and punish them. In reality, this verse lets us know that our friend, our champion, is always there looking out for us. He is present when a virus, riots, or other challenges threaten us. He will carry us through hard times and lead us into times of rest and peace. Today, find great comfort in His constant awareness of you and your steps as He assures you that ‘You’ve got a friend in…” Him. #BeTheEdge
