This is one of the better known and often quoted verses from Proverbs. There is a good reason for that. It is incredibly relevant to our world and life choices these days and throughout history. People don’t make poor and deadly choices because they want a bad outcome, even death, in their journey. They actually believe they are on the right path. There is also a reason God says His ways are not our ways. He’s much smarter and sees a much fuller picture than we possibly can. Man often chooses between good and evil but even more often it is a blending of the two. There is also those situations where we make the good choice but in doing so based on our own wisdom and experience we miss out on the best. It is a well worn statement to not let the good stop us from pursuing the best. These are not only good sales force slogans. They are biblical truths. The way that appears right to us often lack’s the spiritual vision needed to pursue God’s design. It can be a tempting but clear difference between asking God to bless my desired plan and asking and waiting for Him to reveal Hos plan and giving me the strength and patience to wait and walk in it. Following anything other than God’s plan has dire consequences. Solomon says it leads to death. How often we have watched a ministry, work or church flounder and die only to discover someone stepped out ahead of God or ignored Him and pursued their desire while slapping a cross on it. Today wait, listen and only move when His plan is revealed.
“For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” Habakkuk 2:3 NIV
