This is not a rebuke or negative statement for those of us who seek to plan our life. Instead, it is encouragement that God’s children, not the non-believer, will have God guiding Him through the plans that He has planted in his heart. Obedient followers of Christ who make “God’s glory their end, and His will their rule, He will direct their steps by his Spirit and grace.” (Matthew Henry) It is a comforting promise that God is sovereign and will accomplish His will in our story. We are not puppets. We have free will but as we submit our will to His kingdom plans, we have the great joy of watching our steps reflect His power and wisdom. Paul tells us that God is at work planting the desire for His work in us and then giving us the power to accomplish it. That’s why we can trust that God’s will, done God’s way, will not lack God’s blessing. Today, identify and pursue God’s plan for your story and watch Him as He writes it out for you.
“For it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13 NASB
