How do you stop dogs from chasing people on bikes? You take their bike away! Come on that’s funny! Ok how about this, Two muffins are in an oven. One muffin says, “Man it’s hot in here.” The other muffin says, “Hey, a talking muffin!” Nothing? You have to lighten up! This passage has to be the original source for the saying, “Laughter is the best medicine.” There is no doubt a cheery and upbeat spirit is good for us. Not just for our personality but our physical state, as well. According to the Mayo Clinic, here are a few things laughter and giggles can do: relieve stress, strengthen your immune system, and relieve pain. It can also help the health of many organs including stimulate your heart, lungs and muscles, as well as your brain. Sure, it doesn’t cure everything but it sure can help. During hard times like pandemics, loss, and physical challenges, we can choose (that’s right we have a choice about our response) to laugh and enjoy the positives of the journey. Even if that’s just a corny joke. While riding to the cemetery for my first wife’s memorial, my middle son called those of us riding in a different car. He announced, “Did you hear about the group that just attacked?” Thinking he was serious I asked, “What? No, who was it?” He replied, “Al Gebra. They used weapons of math destruction.” Appropriate? I’m not even sure. But we all laughed with an over-the-top response. Our souls needed that medicine. Today, sow joy around you; corny jokes are optional. #BeTheEdge
