Proverbs 17:22 NIV

I spent 40 years of my life as a type 1 diabetic and I’ve spent the last 11 as a double transplant recipient (take that HIPPA). The point of that sentence is that I am incredibly grateful to science and medicine for helping keep me around all these years. Most people who know me are not aware of those two things. I don’t advertise them and I don’t talk about it. I only share it here to illustrate that God cares about our bodies. We are quick to point to verses, especially in the New Testament, that make it very clear that physical care and issues fall way behind spiritual care and issues. That is true. However, realizing that our bodies are, as Dr Paul Brand and Philip Yancey tell us in the title of their excellent book, “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” we should often reflect on the miracle and beauty of what an amazing creation they are. And we should treat them as such. One reason I don’t discuss my health much is that I don’t really think about it often. I try to do exactly as my doctors instruct me and then I enjoy the life God’s given me to live to the fullest. And enjoy it I do. You see the supernatural truth in this verse is that a cheerfulness, living life with a happy, positive outlook is truly good medicine. God made it so. Today strive to bring joy to those who are sad around you and in the meantime live joyfully (dancing optional). #BeTheEdge
