Literally the “corrupt witness” is a translation of the “witness of Satan”. When someone speaks about someone else and is lying or twisting the truth, they become Satan’s tool or Satan’s witness. I can’t think of a much worse title. The person is also seen feeding or feasting on their mockery. Further translation calls this witness worthless. Obviously as Satan’s witness anything they offer as truth is a lie and completely worthless. As followers of Christ we represent the exact opposite of the person we see in this verse. We serve God with our actions and behavior but just as importantly we serve Him with our words and they should not be given quickly or flippantly. Our words should represent truth and holiness. There is a great confusion these days in figuring out which source of news and information is trustworthy. Politically and socially there is left, right and center and many shades or each. Whichever represents a persons leanings is typically where they go for their information. As Christ followers we go first to His word. Then we receive other sources of input. Then back to His word. Beginning and ending with God’s word as our filter will assure we are hearing and sharing truth. We avoid the Satan witnesses at all cost. Today follow His word alone. #BeTheEdge
