A recent exchange between my daughter and her 5 year old.
Hallie: “Momma, what day is it?”
Becca: “Wednesday.”
Hallie: “Harris! (the little brother) I don’t lie on Wednesdays!”
Becca: “Do you lie on other days?”
Hallie: “Sometimes.”
I laughed long and hard at this. I could because I’ve watched as my daughter and her husband teach their 3 small children that they will not tolerate lying nor calling someone a liar. They understand there is no honor in lying. They have also learned, as did my children, that the consequences of lying are not pleasant. At times they are very severe. We see that in this verse. Most of us have learned that the cost of lying is almost always greater than telling the truth, no matter what the consequences. Sadly we live in a rapidly changing culture that at times appears to reward a clever or well manicured lie. To that practice I will reenforce Solomons words and remind us that a false witness will face punishment. The courts are very clear that there is a stiff penalty for perjury. And God makes it clear that a pattern of lying is fatal. Today share only the truth and be a clear representative of The Truth, Jesus. #BeTheEdge
