Proverbs 20:11 NIV

Back when I was in grad school there was a book by a Dr. White where his basic premise was that a persons personality was established by the age of two. I’m not sure I ever bought into that but Solomon is letting us know in this verse that a child’s behavior and speech shows us what will be their inclination as an adult. I’m not sure my 4 year old grandson wants to be a builder because of his inclination or because his dad is an engineer. The Septuagint gives a glimpse of discipleship in this verse telling us that “in his pursuits a young man will be fettered in company with a holy man, and his way will be straight, which seems to mean that a good man will restrain the reckless doings of a giddy youth, and will lead him into better courses”. Scripture shows a number of examples where a young person is attached to a wise, Godly elder who helps them grow in faith and wisdom to prepare them for kingdom work. In business apprenticeships and internships have long been used to teach beginning workers the ropes. God wants role models in His kingdom. Today find one or, if you are ready, be one. #BeTheEdge
