Not long ago, I had lunch with a couple of business leaders and a younger businessman they were mentoring in his business journey. This individual had a powerful personal testimony of God working in and through his life. The one thing that really caught my attention during the lunch was how the young business leader kept saying he didn’t really plan, but instead just allowed Jesus to tell him what to do moment by moment. It sounded very spiritual, but it was actually not very biblical and a pretty dangerous theology for life and business. Solomon, as well as many other biblical authors, reminds us that planning is good when God-directed, and important in pursuing His call in work, family, and ministry. In this verse particularly, Solomon lets us know that not planning, but moving with haste, leads to poverty—and we know it can also lead to bankruptcy and broken families. I speak from experience because my tendency in life has always been to see an opportunity and move rapidly. Many times, this has resulted in less-than-optimum outcomes. Over the years, I have become a better planner, although the impulse is still there to act in haste. Today, strive to plan in conjunction with God’s wisdom and leading. #BeTheEdge
