I use to hear “even you Kevin” a lot as a kid. Mostly because the adult speaker whether coach, parent or teacher, knew my mind was probably wandering. Solomon is making a similar point here. The truths in these two verses are not just vague and general, they are specific to each of us in our life journey. This verse is a continuation of the previous verse and emphasizes that we are to put and keep God’s word and our individual experiences with His work in our story deep in our heart and memory. One of the great gifts given to a godly believer as they age is the opportunity for years to watch God work. It is why we say there is no short cut to maturity and why those who lead us in the Kingdom are called Elders and not youngers. When situations arise in our life we can look back on how God worked in and through them before, line them up with truth we have learned in His word and have a sense of peace and confidence in the midst of walking through them. That is the powerful and exciting gift of God teaching us. We should live the same way while we are young but we add in counsel from those who know His word and have walked this journey before us.
