When reading an article titled “Genetic Similarities Within and Between Human Populations,” two things became very clear. One, why research statistics was by far my least favorite class in grad school. And the second, humans are a lot more alike than we are different. Contrary to what the media keeps telling us, gender is pretty well defined according to science. But other things, such as race and nationality, are not dividing us as much as some would have us believe. God did make every person unique. Interestingly, that is actually something we all have in common. Ultimately there are a number of distinctives in our stories but there is only one God. He is the Creator of all of us, and as such directs our journey as the Sovereign Author and Sustainer of life. In a world and time determined to divide us and create divisions based on abstract things, we need to cling to what unites us. Today, focus on the God image in each person you encounter and recognize your heavenly kinship.
