Anything that takes our eyes and heart off of God threatens to destroy us. We see multitudes around our communities and around the world who are living broken lives, with destroyed marriages, wounded children, and devious businesses because something other than God has seized control of their eyes and hearts. Satan is aware that we all have different tender places in our lives, wounds from life, and experiences that predispose us to allow other things to take prominence in our story. With teenagers, it is very often peer acceptance. In that case, they may be willing to compromise on pursuing godly principles just to be liked. Too often, we don’t outgrow that need and allow others to offer their diluted version of real acceptance rather than finding our acceptance in our Savior. Others allow the big three to fill their vision: the pursuit of money, power, or sex. Mostly, it is just “okay” stuff that doesn’t feel sinful. It may even seem right. A focus on family first can become an idol if it draws our eyes off God. Just ask pastors about what inhibits members’ involvement at times. Whatever it is, the end is destruction. As we said yesterday, when deciding what God wants, make wise and prudent decisions. Today, follow God first—always. #BeTheEdge
