Proverbs 23:35 NIV

This verse is talking about the drunk we met earlier in this chapter. We find him out of control and now living by reacting to others and relying on his instincts. The condition he finds himself in doesn’t give us the greatest confidence in his instincts. Even when he passes out or falls asleep he just wants to sober up enough that he can continue his drinking and being abused. This is perhaps one of the saddest pictures of a broken and empty man in scripture. This person has gone beyond any interest in change. He doesn’t care about rebuke or responding to it. They have given their life over to a total condition of debauchery. Merriam – Webster tells us debauchery looks like this, “extreme indulgence in bodily pleasures and especially sexual pleasures : behavior involving sex, drugs, alcohol, etc. that is often considered immoral.” I’ve known this person. Actually I’ve know too many guys like this. The key to not being like this is that we first allow the Holy Spirit to move into our soul by coming to Christ. Next we listen and respond when He speaks. This moves us away from being controlled by sin and toward being guided by the King of Kings. Today listen to His Spirit and flee the sin that would drag you down. #BeTheEdge

“And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” Ezekiel 36:27 NIV
