As much as I’m not a great fan of Facebook I do like the feature where pictures I’ve posted over the years pop up each day in my feed. The other day a picture from a spring break trip came up. Remember spring break? That was when you could go to the beach, be with others, eat at restaurants and masks were for costumes and bank robberies. I digress. This picture showed us at dinner with our friend Dave Hope. Dave was a founding member of the rock group Kansas. Dave has a powerful story of coming to Christ during that time in his life. I watched him share that story with a group of young people and in the middle of it he said, “I know you wish I could tell you there was another way to get back into a right relationship with God. There seem to be so many enticing things in the world around us. I even wish I could tell you that you can eat all the chocolate cake possible and that would fix your relationship with God. But nothing other then Jesus can do that.” I’m not sure what that chocolate cake thing meant. The point Dave was making was similar to Solomon. We think what the world has to offer looks so wonderful and fulfilling. It can be enjoyable for a while. Ultimately it will leave you as empty as ever and broken beyond belief. Therefore Dave, Solomon and Jesus tell us to not pursue the worlds pleasures. Today desire the things of God and find your emptiness filled and filled to overflowing. #BeTheEdge
