Proverbs 25:26 NASB

I was discussing some great ministers I have encountered over the years with a close friend. After one name was mentioned, I could tell there was something on his mind. With a little prodding he shared with me that this particular minister had an affair with his assistant and had been dismissed from his church.  I was crushed. I had looked up to this person and, although everyone is capable of a fall, this one was particularly devastating. I once heard Steve Brown say that the greatest gift we offer one another in the kingdom is our faithfulness to God. Conversely, the greatest hurt, a ‘kick in the gut’ being his exact words, was a report of unfaithfulness. I have experienced both over my many years. There are clear safeguards God identifies for us in His word to help keep us in the battle. His word, fellowship, and good teaching are important parts. However, clearly the most important discipline to keep us faithful is open, brutal, honest accountability with a brother or, for women, a sister in Christ. Today, be sure someone asks you the hard questions, and that you answer honestly. The Kingdom needs you to walk strong and finish well. #BeTheEdge
