I was recently talking to another movie junkie like myself, and we were discussing why Los Angeles in Southern California became the movie-making hub of the world. There were a number of reasons, but primarily it was because, as the song says, it never rains in Southern California. When movies are filming outdoors and it rains, it costs them significant money to postpone a day or more. That’s why the Pacific Northwest—known for rain, drizzle, and cloudy conditions—did not become the movie capital of the world. Well, at least that’s one of the reasons. It’s also why Orlando became another popular location—they seldom get interrupted by rain. I’ve often thought being a weatherman is a pretty ideal job since if you’re right 50% of the time, you’re considered good at your job. I schedule outdoor golf events every year and count on committed prayer to help make the weather work out. When Solomon says we do not know what a day may bring, he’s talking about more than just the weather. In fact, I don’t think he’s talking about the weather at all. He’s talking about what life can bring us—those things we haven’t even anticipated. But much like the weather, which can only be controlled by God Himself, so too can our life circumstances. As a follower of Christ, I find great comfort in knowing that nothing comes into my life that doesn’t first pass through Him and His plans for my story. No matter how chaotic or disastrous the things that pop up along the way may seem, when I stop and really ponder what’s happening, I realize God was fully aware of what was coming. He is never, ever surprised. Today, live in the confidence that nothing will come into your journey that God has not approved—and it is always there for a good reason. #BeTheEdge
