A good friend ran a company with about 300 employees. We were discussing his Kingdom perspective of his job. I knew he understood when he told me that each employee represented a family of approximately four members. Therefore, he was essentially pastoring a church of 1,200 people. This mindset compels a leader to assess and strategize for the spiritual well-being of their people. A healthy, blessed employee returns home healthy and blessed, spreading the fruit of the Spirit. One reason I believe in a team engaging with The Edge ministry is that it transforms them into the pastoral staff for a company. Another option is a corporate chaplain. Viewing your business as your ministry—a Kingdom principle—means being thoughtfully strategic about employees, vendors, clients, and customers as individuals whose needs require attention. Primarily, this involves recognizing who does and doesn’t have a relationship with Jesus. Also, knowing if they are empowered to grow and be a witness? It may not be possible to know all your employees’ names and stories, but someone on your team should. Being known is the first step toward truly knowing them. A teenage girl once stopped me to thank me for remembering her name every time I saw her. Later in life, she told me that it was a beautiful reflection of how God felt about her during her awkward teen years and drew her closer to Him. Today, know your herd. #BeTheEdge
